THON
The largest student-run philanthropy in the nation, Dance Marathon (THON) is special to PSU. All proceeds benefit The Four Diamonds Fund, Conquering Childhood Cancer, at the Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. THON culminates in a 46-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping Dance Marathon in the Bryce Jordan Center each February. Over the past 36 years, Penn State students have raised more than $52 million and have helped thousands of children and families fight pediatric cancer.
Student-athletes are involved in year-round fundraising and participate in numerous events before and throughout THON weekend. Annually, a SAAB/THON Committee is formed and consists of an Entertainment Chair to oversee the Pep Rally and Athlete Hour, a Communications Chair to oversee information to teams, organize an on-line memorabilia auction and the Kick-off Carnival. A Finance Chair oversees a solicitation letter drive, the Tailgate BBQ and the Mr. and Miss Student-Athlete Pageant; and the Family Relations Chair coordinates involvement and communication with our THON family. Additionally, SAAB selects 4-6 student-athletes to dance in the 46-hour event.
